Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Grey 260ml

Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Grey 260ml is a multipurpose, mid-modulus silicone sealant designed to form a permanently flexible, high-strength and waterproof seal. Its versatile grey colour complements aluminium, grey PVCu, metal-effect finishes, contemporary tiles, guttering and other similarly coloured building materials.

This one-part acetoxy silicone cures quickly when exposed to moisture in the atmosphere. Once fully cured, it creates a durable elastic seal capable of accommodating normal movement between compatible surfaces. The formulation also contains a fungicide to help protect the sealant against bacteria, mildew and black mould commonly found in humid areas.

Versatile grey finish

Grey is a practical choice for modern construction and refurbishment projects. It coordinates effectively with anthracite-style frames, aluminium, grey PVCu trims, metal-effect panels, contemporary tiles and matching guttering. It can also provide a more discreet finish than white silicone when used around darker fixtures.

The solid grey colour may be used to blend with adjoining materials or create a deliberate contrasting line. Silicone cannot normally be painted, so make sure the selected colour is appropriate before application. Where an exact match is important, test a small amount and allow it to cure before sealing the complete joint.

Waterproof and permanently flexible

Once cured, Everbuild General Purpose Silicone creates a waterproof barrier that helps prevent moisture from passing through properly designed joints. This makes it suitable for numerous applications exposed to rain, splashes, condensation and routine cleaning.

The silicone remains flexible rather than drying to a rigid finish. It can accommodate up to 12.5% joint movement resulting from temperature changes, vibration and the normal expansion or contraction of adjoining materials.

This movement capability does not make the product suitable for structural cracks or joints exposed to excessive movement. Unstable surfaces, active cracking and underlying water-ingress problems must be investigated and repaired before sealing.

Suitable applications

Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Grey is suitable for a broad selection of building, household and maintenance tasks. Typical uses include sealing around baths, shower trays, basins and other sanitary ware, particularly where grey fixtures or tiles are installed.

It may also be used around compatible worktops and laminates, as an adhesive for suitable PVCu trims, cladding and panels, for sealing compatible aluminium gutter joints and for general draught-proofing.

The grey finish makes the product especially useful around aluminium and metal-effect features. However, because this is an acetoxy-cure silicone, compatibility with each particular metal or coating must be confirmed before use.

Anti-fungal formulation

The sealant contains a fungicide to help protect the cured bead against bacteria, mildew and black mould. This provides useful resistance in bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms and other areas where humidity and condensation may be present.

Anti-fungal protection does not eliminate the need for ventilation and regular cleaning. Standing water, soap residue and poor air circulation can encourage surface contamination. Keep sealed areas clean with a compatible non-abrasive product and maintain effective ventilation.

For heavily used showers, wet rooms and commercial sanitary environments, consider whether a premium sanitary silicone offering enhanced mould resistance would be more appropriate.

Compatible materials

Everbuild General Purpose Silicone offers good adhesion to many smooth and non-porous materials. These include glass, glazed ceramic tiles, sanitary ceramics and anodised aluminium. It may also bond to compatible PVCu, laminates and selected coated surfaces.

The acetoxy curing system releases acetic acid while the product hardens. This may affect sensitive metals, mirror backing, natural stone and certain plastics. A suitable neutral-cure or specialist silicone should be used where there is a risk of corrosion, staining or surface damage.

Porous backgrounds such as brick, concrete, mortar and unglazed stone may require an appropriate primer or a different sealant formulation. Always complete a compatibility test on unfamiliar, decorative or valuable surfaces.

Surface preparation

Correct preparation is essential for a lasting seal. Both sides of the joint must be sound, clean, dry and free from dust, grease, oil, soap deposits, old sealant and other contamination.

Remove existing silicone completely because fresh silicone does not bond reliably to cured silicone. A suitable silicone remover may help soften stubborn residue. Clean the joint afterwards using a preparation product compatible with the surface and allow it to dry thoroughly.

Remove loose paint, weak coatings and friable materials. Deep joints may require a compatible backing rod to control the sealant depth and avoid three-sided adhesion. A correctly formed joint allows the silicone to move more effectively.

How to apply the silicone

Cut the seal on the 260ml cartridge carefully and attach the application nozzle. Trim the nozzle at an angle to create an opening that matches the required joint width. Place the cartridge into a compatible sealant gun.

Apply Everbuild General Purpose Silicone using steady, even pressure. Keep the nozzle positioned within the joint and dispense enough material to establish full contact with both sides. Avoid leaving gaps or trapping air behind the bead.

For clean edges, apply masking tape alongside the joint before sealing. Tool the fresh silicone promptly using a suitable finishing tool, forming a smooth and slightly concave surface. Remove the tape immediately after tooling and before the sealant develops a skin.

Curing and aftercare

The silicone cures through contact with moisture in the air. Temperature, humidity, ventilation, bead thickness and joint depth will all affect its curing rate. Warm, moderately humid conditions generally promote faster curing, while cold temperatures and deep joints can extend the process.

Protect the newly applied sealant from water, dirt and movement until it has cured sufficiently. Baths, showers, gutters and other sealed components must not be placed back into full service before the recommended curing period has passed.

A vinegar-like odour may be noticeable while the acetoxy silicone cures. This is normal and should disappear as the product hardens. Ensure the area remains adequately ventilated during application and curing.

Important limitations

Do not use Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Grey on bituminous materials or surfaces that release oils, plasticisers or solvents. The product is not designed for aquariums, structural glazing, food-contact applications or joints that remain continuously submerged.

Avoid application to natural stone because staining may occur. It should also not be used on sensitive metals or mirror backing unless suitability has been specifically confirmed. Use an appropriate neutral-cure sealant for these materials.

Do not apply the product to frozen, wet, dusty or unstable backgrounds. Exterior joints should be protected from rain during initial curing, and any structural defects or active water ingress must be resolved first.

Cleaning and storage

Clean uncured silicone from tools using an appropriate silicone cleaner, checking compatibility with adjacent materials first. Once cured, silicone will generally require careful mechanical removal.

Store the unopened cartridge in cool, dry conditions between approximately +5°C and +25°C. Protect it from frost, direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep the product sealed and securely stored away from children.
