Azpects EasySeal Sandstone Enhancer and Sealer 5L
Azpects EasySeal Sandstone Enhancer and Sealer 5L is a professional-grade, water-based impregnating treatment formulated to enhance and protect natural sandstone paving. It enriches the stone’s natural colours while maintaining an authentic matt appearance, avoiding the artificial glossy or wet-look finish produced by some surface coatings.
The two-in-one formulation combines colour enhancement with protection against water, oil and grease. It can help revive tired-looking sandstone patios, paths and driveways while making the treated surface easier to maintain. The sealer also helps resist staining, algae and fungal growth, supporting a cleaner and more attractive finish throughout the year.
Unlike a topical coating that forms a visible film over the paving, EASYSeal Sandstone Enhancer & Sealer penetrates the pores of the stone. This impregnating action helps protect the material while retaining its natural surface texture. The result is enhanced colour without an unwanted shine.
Designed for Natural Sandstone
This EASYSeal product has been specially formulated for sandstone and other porous natural stone. Sandstone varies considerably in colour, texture and absorbency, even between slabs from the same pack. The sealer penetrates the surface and deepens the natural tones, helping bring out the stone’s individual markings and colour variations.
It is suitable for many sandstone colours and finishes, including riven and smooth paving. A test area must always be completed before treating the entire surface, as the degree of enhancement will vary according to the stone’s porosity, colour and previous treatment.
Although the product can be used on other compatible natural stones, Azpects recommends its dedicated Slate & Limestone Sealer for less porous materials such as slate and limestone. Choosing the sealer formulated for the relevant stone type helps achieve more consistent absorption and appearance.
Enhances Colour Without Shine
Weather exposure, general use and repeated cleaning can sometimes leave sandstone looking pale or washed out. EASYSeal Sandstone Enhancer & Sealer enriches the existing colours, helping restore warmth, contrast and definition to the paving.
The product does not add a false glossy surface. Once correctly applied and dried, it leaves a natural matt finish that complements the character of sandstone. Because colour enhancement is part of its purpose, it will alter and deepen the appearance of the stone. Always test an inconspicuous area and allow it to dry fully before deciding whether the result is suitable.
Protection Against Everyday Staining
The impregnating formulation helps protect treated sandstone against the penetration of water, oil and grease. This makes it a practical choice for outdoor dining spaces, barbecue areas, pathways and driveways where accidental spills and everyday soiling are more likely.
Sealing does not make paving completely stain-proof or remove the need for regular maintenance. Spills should still be cleaned promptly, as leaving oil, grease, food or other staining materials on the surface may cause permanent marks. However, a correctly sealed surface is generally easier to clean because contaminants are less able to penetrate the stone immediately.
Helps Resist Algae and Fungal Growth
By reducing the amount of water absorbed into the paving, EASYSeal Sandstone Enhancer & Sealer helps create conditions that are less favourable for algae and fungal growth. This can support a cleaner surface, particularly in areas exposed to regular rainfall.
The product cannot prevent organic growth in every situation. Shaded, damp or poorly drained areas may still require periodic cleaning. Leaves, soil and other debris should be removed regularly because they retain moisture and provide nutrients that encourage biological growth.
Suitable Applications
Azpects EASYSeal Sandstone Enhancer & Sealer is suitable for natural stone surfaces including:
- Sandstone patios and terraces
- Garden paths and walkways
- Natural stone driveways
- Outdoor seating and dining areas
- Steps and entrance areas
- Other compatible porous natural stone surfaces
The surface must be structurally sound and correctly installed, with suitable falls and drainage. The sealer will not repair cracks, loose paving, failed pointing or drainage problems. Complete all necessary repairs before cleaning and sealing the area.
Preparing the Surface
Thorough preparation is essential. The paving must be clean and free from dust, dirt, algae, moss, efflorescence, jointing residue, grease and other contamination. Sweep away leaves and loose debris before beginning.
If a chemical cleaner is required, select one that is suitable for sandstone and the contamination being treated. Completely rinse away cleaning products and allow the paving to dry before applying the sealer. Applying sealer over trapped dirt or staining may make the marks more difficult to remove later.
New paving should be fully installed, clean and dry, with all jointing material properly cured. Refer to the jointing-product manufacturer’s instructions because some compounds require a specific curing period before a sealer can be applied.
Do not apply the product over an existing sealer unless compatibility has been confirmed. Old topical coatings may prevent penetration and could create a patchy finish. Incompatible coatings must be removed before the area is resealed.
Complete a Test Area
Always apply the product to a small, inconspicuous area before treating the full surface. The test should confirm absorption, compatibility, final colour and overall appearance. Allow the test area to dry completely before assessing it.
If the product remains on the surface instead of soaking in, the stone may already be sealed or may be too dense for this particular treatment. Do not continue until the reason for the lack of absorption has been identified.
How to Apply
Shake the container thoroughly before use. Apply a generous and even coat using a brush, roller or suitable low-pressure garden sprayer. Work in manageable sections and distribute the product consistently across the stone.
Apply at an approximate rate of one litre per 4–5m², depending on surface porosity. Highly absorbent or textured sandstone may require more product, while denser stone may absorb less.
Do not allow excess sealer to pool in depressions or remain on the surface. Use a clean roller, brush or absorbent cloth to redistribute or remove surplus material before it dries. Unabsorbed product may leave shiny patches, streaks or an uneven finish.
Applying a Second Coat
One coat may provide sufficient enhancement on some surfaces. For increased colour enhancement and protection, apply a second coat before the first coat has dried. This is known as a wet-on-wet application.
The second coat should be applied while the first remains wet enough to accept more product. Do not allow the first coat to cure completely and then apply another coat without checking the manufacturer’s instructions, as the sealed surface may prevent consistent penetration.
Remove any product that has not been absorbed after application. More sealer is not always better; the objective is to saturate the pores without leaving a film or residue on top of the stone.
Drying and Curing
Allow approximately eight hours before walking on the treated surface. The product requires around 24 hours to cure fully under suitable conditions. Keep people, vehicles, pets, furniture and plant pots off the area during the relevant drying period.
Drying and curing times may be longer in cool, damp or poorly ventilated conditions. Avoid application when rain is expected or when surface temperatures fall outside the limits stated in the current product instructions. Once the sealer is completely dry, Azpects advises that the treated surface is pet-safe.
Coverage
Apply the product at approximately one litre per 4–5m². One 5-litre container will therefore seal up to approximately 25m² based on a single coat. Actual coverage depends heavily on the porosity, profile and condition of the stone.
A rough or highly absorbent surface may use more product. Applying two coats will also reduce the total area covered by each container. Measure the project carefully and allow sufficient material to complete the area without interruption.
