Bond It Indian Stone Sealer 5L

Bond It Indian Stone Sealer 5L is a ready-to-use, solvent-free treatment developed to protect Indian sandstone and other porous natural stone surfaces. Its advanced fluoropolymer formulation creates a clear, largely invisible barrier that helps resist water, oil and everyday staining while preserving the natural appearance of the paving.

Designed for paths, patios and driveways, this one-coat sealer is suitable for domestic and commercial landscaping projects. It is particularly useful around outdoor dining areas and barbecues, where natural stone may be exposed to cooking oils, grease and food spillages. Once applied and cured, the treatment also helps make routine cleaning easier by reducing the rate at which contaminants penetrate the stone.

The product offers coverage of approximately 4–8m² per litre, depending on surface porosity. A 5-litre container can therefore treat approximately 20–40m² with one coat. The sealed area can normally accept light foot traffic after around three to four hours in suitable conditions.

Designed for Porous Natural Stone

Bond It Indian Stone Sealer has been developed primarily for Indian sandstone and other absorbent natural stone. Suitable surfaces include Indian sandstone, traditional sandstone, Yorkstone, compatible limestone and similar porous paving materials.

The product needs to penetrate the stone to work correctly. It may not be suitable for dense, polished, glazed or non-porous surfaces that cannot absorb the liquid. It should not be applied to porcelain paving unless Bond It has confirmed compatibility for the particular product and finish.

Natural stone varies considerably in texture, colour and porosity. Even slabs from the same paving pack may absorb different quantities of sealer. A small test area must therefore be completed before treating the whole surface. The test will confirm compatibility, absorption, coverage and the final appearance.

Clear, Natural-Looking Protection

The sealer is intended to protect stone without significantly changing its natural colour or character. Once correctly applied, it leaves a clear, natural-looking protective finish rather than a strong colour-enhancing or wet-look effect.

Although the coating is described as clear, any liquid treatment may alter the appearance of certain stones. Changes are more likely on very porous, pale or unusually finished paving. Always assess a fully dried test patch before continuing across a visible area.

Apply the sealer evenly and avoid pooling. Excess product left on the surface may dry unevenly and create differences in sheen, colour or texture. Correct preparation and controlled application are essential for a consistent result.

Water and Oil Resistance

The advanced fluoropolymer formula provides improved resistance to both water-based and oil-based contamination. This helps protect natural stone against rainwater, general dirt, vehicle-related staining and common household spillages.

It is particularly useful for patios near barbecues and outdoor kitchens, where fat, cooking oil and food may otherwise soak quickly into porous stone. Driveways and entrance paths can also benefit from added resistance to oil, dirt and weather-related staining.

Sealing does not make stone completely stain-proof. Spills should always be absorbed and cleaned as quickly as possible. Strong chemicals, prolonged contamination or liquids allowed to remain on the surface may still cause marking.

Helps Discourage Organic Growth

Bond It Indian Stone Sealer helps reduce the conditions that encourage moss, algae and fungal growth by limiting water penetration into the stone. This can support a cleaner-looking surface and make normal maintenance more manageable.

No sealer can completely prevent organic growth, especially in damp, shaded or poorly drained locations. Leaves, soil and other debris should be removed regularly because they hold moisture against the paving. Periodic cleaning may still be necessary.

Suitable Applications

Subject to correct preparation and a successful test, Bond It Indian Stone Sealer can be used on:

  • Indian sandstone patios
  • Sandstone garden paths
  • Yorkstone paving
  • Compatible limestone surfaces
  • Natural stone terraces
  • Porous stone driveways
  • Outdoor seating and dining areas
  • Barbecue surrounds
  • Entrance paths and steps

The sealer is a protective treatment and will not repair damaged paving. Loose slabs, failed pointing, cracks, poor drainage and structural movement must be corrected before the surface is sealed.

Surface Preparation

The surface must be completely clean and dry before application. Remove loose dirt, dust, leaves and debris using a stiff brush. Moss, algae, lichen and other organic growth should be treated and removed with a suitable natural-stone cleaner. Bond It recommends Patio Blaster where appropriate.

Oil, grease, tyre marks and food stains must also be removed. Applying sealer over contamination may trap stains below the treatment and prevent proper penetration.

After cleaning, rinse the area thoroughly to remove all chemical and loosened residues. Allow the paving to dry completely. Moisture retained within the stone can affect penetration, curing and final appearance.

New paving must be properly installed, cleaned and dry before treatment. Ensure that bedding mortars, primers and jointing compounds have cured for the period recommended by their respective manufacturers. Remove cement haze, efflorescence and installation residue using methods appropriate for the stone.

Check for Existing Sealers

Previously sealed paving may not absorb Bond It Indian Stone Sealer evenly. Existing topical sealers and incompatible treatments may need to be removed before application.

Complete a water-drop test in several locations. If water beads on the surface and does not darken or penetrate the stone, an existing treatment may still be present. Seek technical advice if the previous product cannot be identified.

Always Test Before Use

Apply a small quantity in an inconspicuous location before treating the complete area. Allow the test patch to dry for at least the stated curing period, then assess the colour, finish, absorption and water repellence.

Do not proceed if the liquid remains on the surface, produces unacceptable colour changes or dries with a patchy finish. The cause may be an existing sealer, insufficient cleaning, retained moisture or inadequate porosity.

Application Conditions

Apply when both the surface and surrounding temperature are between 5°C and 30°C. The paving must be dry, and the weather should remain dry throughout application and curing.

Avoid working when rain, frost, heavy dew or very high humidity is expected. Cold and humid conditions will slow the drying process. Hot stone and strong direct sunlight may cause the product to dry too quickly, making an even application more difficult.

Protect surrounding walls, windows, doors, plants, painted materials and surfaces that are not being treated. Plan where work will begin and finish so there is no need to walk across freshly sealed paving.

How to Apply Bond It Indian Stone Sealer

  1. Make sure the paving is thoroughly clean and completely dry.
  2. Protect adjoining surfaces and complete a test patch.
  3. Shake the container thoroughly to mix the contents.
  4. Apply one even coat using a brush, roller or squeegee.
  5. Work in manageable sections and maintain a wet edge.
  6. Spread the product uniformly without overworking it.
  7. Do not allow the sealer to pool or pond in joints and depressions.
  8. Redistribute or remove surplus product before it begins to dry.
  9. Keep people, pets and vehicles away during the curing period.

The product is supplied ready to use and should not be diluted. A single coat is normally required. Applying excessive quantities or unnecessary additional coats may prevent absorption and produce an uneven surface finish.

Drying Time

Allow approximately three to four hours before permitting light foot traffic. Drying times depend on temperature, humidity, ventilation, stone porosity and the quantity applied. Cooler or more humid conditions will extend the curing period.

Do not judge the final appearance while the product is still wet. Allow the treatment to dry completely and delay heavy use, furniture replacement or vehicle traffic until the sealer has cured sufficiently.

Coverage

Bond It Indian Stone Sealer covers approximately 4–8m² per litre. A 5-litre container will therefore cover around 20–40m² with one coat.

Actual coverage depends on the porosity, texture and condition of the paving. Rough or highly absorbent sandstone may use significantly more product than smoother, denser stone. Measure the area and allow additional material for variations and normal application waste.
