Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Black 260ml

Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Black 260ml is a multipurpose, mid-modulus silicone sealant formulated to create a permanently flexible, high-strength and waterproof seal. Its solid black colour provides a neat finish alongside black PVCu, dark window and door frames, guttering, cladding, panels, worktops and other complementary surfaces.

This one-part acetoxy silicone cures quickly when exposed to atmospheric moisture. Once fully cured, it forms a durable elastic seal capable of accommodating normal movement between compatible materials. Its anti-fungal formulation also helps protect the cured bead against bacteria, mildew and black mould commonly associated with humid conditions.

Professional black finish

The solid black colour makes this sealant particularly suitable for modern black window frames, dark PVCu trims, black guttering and contemporary fixtures. It can provide a more discreet result than white or clear silicone when used between similarly coloured materials.

Black silicone may also be selected deliberately to create a defined, contrasting joint against lighter tiles, glass or panels. Because silicone cannot normally be overpainted, the colour should be checked before application. Where appearance is especially important, complete a small trial bead and allow it to cure before treating the entire area.

Waterproof and permanently flexible

Once fully cured, Everbuild General Purpose Silicone creates a waterproof barrier that helps prevent moisture from passing through properly designed joints. It is suitable for numerous interior and exterior applications exposed to rain, splashes, condensation or routine cleaning.

The cured sealant remains flexible rather than becoming rigid or brittle. This allows it to accommodate up to 12.5% movement caused by temperature changes, vibration and the expansion or contraction of adjoining materials.

The product should not be used to bridge structural cracks or seal joints subject to movement beyond its stated capability. Active water ingress, unstable materials and significant cracking must be properly repaired before the silicone is applied.

Typical applications

Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Black can be used for a broad selection of household, construction and maintenance tasks. It is particularly useful for sealing around compatible black PVCu window and door trims, dark frames, cladding, panels, laminates and worktops.

The sealant may also be used for compatible aluminium gutter joints, general draught-proofing and selected sanitary applications. Its waterproof properties make it useful wherever a flexible black seal is required between suitable smooth and non-porous materials.

It may be used as an adhesive for selected lightweight PVCu trims, cladding and panels. However, heavy, overhead or safety-critical components should be secured using appropriate mechanical fixings rather than relying solely on silicone.

Anti-fungal formulation

The silicone contains a fungicide that helps protect the cured sealant against bacteria, mildew and black mould. This makes it suitable for many general sanitary and high-humidity applications, provided the background is compatible and correctly prepared.

Anti-fungal protection does not remove the need for cleaning and ventilation. Standing water, soap deposits, dirt and poor air circulation can encourage surface contamination. Clean the joint regularly using an appropriate non-abrasive product and maintain effective ventilation.

For heavily used showers, wet rooms or environments requiring enhanced long-term mould resistance, a premium sanitary silicone may provide more appropriate specialist performance.

Suitable materials

Everbuild General Purpose Silicone provides good adhesion to many smooth and non-porous surfaces, including glass, glazed ceramics, sanitary ware and anodised aluminium. It may also bond to compatible PVCu, laminates and selected coated materials.

As an acetoxy-cure silicone, the product releases acetic acid while it hardens. It may therefore be unsuitable for sensitive metals, mirrors, natural stone and some plastics. A neutral-cure or specialist sealant should be selected where there is a risk of corrosion, staining or damage.

Porous materials such as brick, concrete, mortar and unglazed stone may require a suitable primer or a different silicone formulation. Always complete a compatibility and adhesion test when working with an unfamiliar, decorative or valuable surface.

Preparing the joint

Correct preparation is essential for a reliable and attractive seal. Both joint faces must be sound, clean, dry and free from dust, grease, oil, soap residue, old sealant and other contamination.

Existing silicone must be removed completely because fresh silicone will not bond reliably to cured silicone. Use a suitable silicone remover where necessary, clean the surfaces with a compatible preparation product and allow the joint to dry thoroughly.

Remove loose paint, unstable coatings and friable material. Deep joints may require a compatible backing rod to control the sealant depth and prevent adhesion to the base of the joint. This creates the correct joint profile and allows the silicone to move more effectively.

How to apply the silicone

Cut the seal on the 260ml cartridge carefully, attach the nozzle and trim it at an angle to produce the required bead width. Place the cartridge into a compatible sealant applicator gun.

Apply the silicone using steady and consistent pressure. Keep the nozzle positioned within the joint and dispense enough material to make complete contact with both sides. Avoid trapping air behind the bead or leaving gaps.

For clean lines, apply masking tape along both edges before sealing. Tool the fresh silicone promptly using a suitable finishing tool, producing a smooth and slightly concave surface. Remove the masking tape immediately after tooling and before the sealant begins to form a skin.

Curing and aftercare

Everbuild General Purpose Silicone cures through contact with atmospheric moisture. Its curing rate will be influenced by temperature, humidity, ventilation, bead thickness and joint dimensions. Warm, moderately humid conditions generally support faster curing, while cold temperatures or deep joints can extend the process.

Protect the newly applied silicone from water, dirt and movement until it has cured sufficiently. Do not place the sealed component back into full service before the manufacturer’s recommended curing period has passed.

A vinegar-like smell may be noticeable during application and curing. This is characteristic of acetoxy silicone and should disappear as the product hardens. Provide adequate ventilation throughout the work.

Important limitations

Do not use Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Black on bituminous surfaces or materials that release oil, solvents or plasticisers. It is not designed for aquariums, structural glazing, food-contact applications or continuously submerged joints.

Avoid using it on natural stone, as staining may occur. The acetoxy curing system can also affect sensitive metals and mirror backing. Choose a suitable neutral-cure silicone for these applications.

Do not apply the product to frozen, wet, dusty or unstable backgrounds. Exterior joints should be protected from rain and excessive movement during initial curing.

Cleaning and storage

Remove fresh, uncured silicone from tools using an appropriate silicone cleaner. Test the cleaner on surrounding finishes before use. Fully cured silicone will normally need to be removed mechanically.

Store the cartridge in cool, dry conditions between approximately +5°C and +25°C. Protect it from frost, direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep the product sealed and stored securely away from children.
