Azpects EasySeal Slate & Limestone Enhancer and Sealer 5L

Azpects EasySeal Slate & Limestone Enhancer and Sealer 5L is an advanced, ready-to-use treatment designed to enhance and protect natural slate and limestone. Its water-based impregnating formulation enriches the stone’s natural colours while providing a transparent, breathable barrier against water, oil, grease, dirt and everyday staining.

Slate and limestone can lose some of their visual depth as they weather, particularly after prolonged exposure to sunlight, rainfall and regular cleaning. This professional-grade sealer helps revive the stone and bring out its natural colour variations without leaving a heavily glossed or artificial-looking surface. The finished appearance is closer to slightly damp stone than a full wet-look coating.

The treatment penetrates the stone instead of forming a thick film over the surface. This allows the material to breathe while helping repel liquids and contaminants. It is suitable for patios, paths, steps, driveways and other compatible slate or limestone installations, subject to correct preparation and a successful test application.

Specially Formulated for Slate and Limestone

EASYSeal Slate & Limestone Enhancer and Sealer has been developed for less porous natural stones such as slate and limestone. It should not be confused with the Azpects Sandstone Enhancer & Sealer, which is formulated for more porous sandstone surfaces.

The sealer can be used on different colours and finishes of slate and limestone, provided the stone has enough porosity to absorb the treatment. It is particularly effective at enriching darker shades, including black limestone, where weathering can sometimes leave the surface looking pale or washed out.

The degree and uniformity of colour enhancement depend on the porosity of each slab. Natural stone can vary significantly, and individual paving pieces may absorb different amounts of sealer. This variation is part of the character of natural stone, but it also makes a test area essential before the entire surface is treated.

Natural Colour Enhancement

The product enriches and stabilises the existing colours within slate and limestone rather than adding an artificial colour of its own. It can deepen dark tones, strengthen natural contrast and highlight the individual markings found within the stone.

Although the sealer is transparent, it will change the appearance of the paving. The intended finish resembles a dampened surface rather than a high-gloss wet look. One coat is normally sufficient for protection, but additional coats can produce a stronger enhancement where the surface remains capable of absorbing more product.

Always test the selected number of coats in a discreet area and allow the sample to dry fully. This will show the finished colour and help establish how quickly the stone absorbs the sealer.

Breathable, Non-Film-Forming Protection

As an impregnating sealer, EASYSeal Slate & Limestone penetrates below the surface instead of creating a thick skin over the paving. This provides water-repellent protection while allowing retained moisture vapour to escape.

The breathable, non-film-forming finish helps preserve the stone’s natural texture. It is also pressure-washer resistant once fully cured, although any pressure cleaning should still be completed carefully to avoid damaging the stone, joints or surrounding materials.

The product is described as slip resistant because it does not normally create a thick, smooth film over the surface. However, all paving can become slippery when contaminated by water, ice, algae, oil or loose debris. Regular cleaning and maintenance remain necessary.

Protection Against Staining

The sealer helps repel water, oil, grease, dirt and grime, reducing the speed at which these materials can penetrate the stone. This makes it suitable for outdoor dining spaces, paths, entrance areas and driveways where accidental spills or general soiling are more likely.

A sealed surface is generally easier to maintain, but it is not completely stain-proof. Oil, food, chemicals, bird droppings and other contaminants should be removed promptly. The product provides only limited protection against chemical spills and bird fouling if they are left on the paving for an extended period.

Helps Resist Organic Growth

By reducing water absorption, EASYSeal Slate & Limestone can help discourage moss, algae and fungal growth. This supports a cleaner-looking surface and may reduce the frequency of intensive cleaning.

No sealer can completely prevent organic growth, particularly in shaded, damp or poorly drained areas. Remove leaves, soil and other debris regularly, as these retain moisture and provide nutrients for moss and algae. Periodic cleaning may still be required.

Suitable Uses

Subject to testing and correct preparation, this product can be used on compatible slate and limestone surfaces including:

  • Natural slate patios and terraces
  • Limestone paving and pathways
  • Black limestone patios
  • Garden paths and steps
  • Outdoor dining and seating areas
  • Suitable natural stone driveways
  • Compatible interior slate and limestone floors

The sealer is not intended for stone with little or no porosity. If the liquid remains on the surface and does not penetrate during the test application, stop and seek advice before proceeding.

Preparing the Surface

The paving must be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil, grease, algae, moss, efflorescence, cement residue and other contamination. Brush away loose leaves and debris, then clean the area using products and methods suitable for slate or limestone.

Take particular care with limestone because acidic cleaners can attack and permanently damage the stone. Use only compatible, non-acidic cleaning products and follow their instructions carefully.

Rinse away all cleaning residue and allow the surface to dry as required. Although this sealer can be applied to a damp surface, there must be no standing water or pooling. Applying it to a dry surface generally makes absorption and coverage easier to assess.

New paving should be fully installed and properly cleaned before sealing. Jointing compounds and mortars must be given sufficient time to cure. Follow the jointing-product manufacturer’s guidance before applying any sealer.

Complete a Test Area

Apply the product to a small and inconspicuous section before beginning the main area. The test will confirm compatibility, absorption, coverage and the finished colour. Where more than one coat is being considered, reproduce the full proposed application on the test patch.

Allow the sample to cure before assessing the result. Do not proceed if the finish is patchy, excessively glossy or otherwise unacceptable. An uneven result may indicate contamination, an existing coating or insufficient surface porosity.

Application

Shake the container thoroughly before use. Apply the sealer evenly using a suitable brush, roller or low-pressure sprayer. Work in manageable sections and maintain a wet edge to avoid visible overlap marks.

Distribute the liquid evenly and make sure the complete area is treated. Do not allow the product to collect in joints, depressions or low spots. Remove or redistribute any excess before it dries, as unabsorbed material may leave shiny patches or an inconsistent finish.

One coat is usually sufficient. If greater colour enhancement is required and the surface remains absorbent, further product may be applied in accordance with the current Azpects instructions. Avoid applying more sealer than the stone can absorb.

Drying and Curing

Protect the treated area from rain, dirt and traffic while it dries. Drying times will vary with temperature, airflow, surface porosity and humidity. Allow approximately 24 hours for the treatment to cure completely under suitable conditions.

Keep vehicles, furniture, plant pots and other heavy items off the surface throughout the curing period. Pets should also be kept away while the sealer is wet; Azpects advises that the product is pet-safe once fully dry.

Coverage

One 5-litre container covers up to approximately 25m² based on a single coat. This is equivalent to around 5m² per litre. Actual coverage will depend on the porosity, texture, condition and previous treatment of the stone.

Highly absorbent or textured surfaces may use more product. Applying additional coats will also reduce the total area covered by each container. Measure the area carefully and allow extra material for natural variations and normal application waste.
