Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Brown 260ml
Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Brown 260ml is a multipurpose, mid-modulus silicone sealant formulated to provide a permanently flexible, high-strength and waterproof seal. Its brown colour makes it particularly useful when working alongside brown PVCu, timber-effect frames, dark laminates, guttering and other complementary building materials.
This one-part acetoxy silicone cures quickly when exposed to moisture in the atmosphere. Once cured, it creates a durable elastic seal that can accommodate normal movement between compatible surfaces. The formulation also contains a fungicide to help protect the sealant against bacteria, mildew and black mould commonly found in areas of high humidity.
Practical brown finish
The brown finish provides a less noticeable seal when used with matching or similarly coloured materials. It is a practical alternative to white, clear or black silicone around brown window frames, doors, panels, gutters and timber-effect finishes.
It may also be useful where a contrasting white bead would look too prominent against darker decorative surfaces. As silicone cannot normally be overpainted, the selected brown colour should be suitable for the finished installation before application begins.
Screen images and surrounding materials may make the colour appear different. Where an exact match is important, compare the physical cartridge colour indicator or complete a small test application before sealing the full joint.
Waterproof and permanently flexible
Once fully cured, Everbuild General Purpose Silicone forms a waterproof barrier that helps prevent moisture from passing through correctly prepared joints. This makes it suitable for numerous interior and exterior sealing projects exposed to rain, splashes, condensation or routine cleaning.
The cured silicone remains flexible rather than becoming rigid and brittle. This flexibility allows it to accommodate up to 12.5% movement resulting from temperature changes, vibration and the natural expansion or contraction of adjoining materials.
The product should not be used to bridge structural cracks or joints subject to movement beyond its stated capability. The source of any significant cracking or water ingress must be repaired before the silicone is applied.
Suitable applications
Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Brown can be used for a wide range of household, construction and maintenance applications. Typical uses include sealing around compatible glazing, brown PVCu trims, cladding, panels, laminates and worktops.
It may also be used for sealing suitable aluminium gutter joints, general draught-proofing and selected sanitary applications. The brown finish is especially suitable for matching dark guttering, timber-effect surfaces and coloured frames where clear or white silicone would be more visible.
When used as an adhesive for compatible trims or lightweight panels, the surfaces must be capable of carrying the item. Mechanical support may still be required where the component is heavy, overhead or safety-critical.
Anti-fungal protection
The silicone contains a fungicide that helps protect the cured bead against bacteria, mildew and black mould. This provides useful resistance in humid areas and makes the product suitable for many general sanitary sealing tasks.
Anti-fungal protection does not remove the need for regular cleaning and ventilation. Soap residue, surface dirt, standing water and persistent condensation can encourage contamination. Keep the joint clean using a compatible non-abrasive cleaner and maintain adequate ventilation.
A premium sanitary silicone may be more appropriate for heavily used showers, wet rooms or other locations requiring enhanced mould resistance.
Compatible materials
Everbuild General Purpose Silicone offers strong adhesion to many smooth, non-porous materials. These include glass, glazed ceramics, sanitary ware and anodised aluminium. It may also bond to suitable PVCu, laminate and coated surfaces.
Because the product uses an acetoxy curing system, it releases acetic acid while it hardens. It may therefore be unsuitable for sensitive metals, natural stone, mirrors and certain plastics. Always check material compatibility and complete a small test when working with an unfamiliar or valuable surface.
Porous materials such as brick, concrete, mortar and unglazed stone may require an appropriate primer or a specialist neutral-cure silicone. Brown silicone should not be applied to natural stone without specific approval because staining may occur.
Surface preparation
Both sides of the joint must be sound, clean, dry and free from dust, grease, oil, soap deposits, old sealant and other contamination. Remove existing silicone completely because fresh silicone will not bond reliably to cured silicone.
Use a suitable silicone remover where required, then clean the joint with a preparation product compatible with the surface. Allow all cleaners to evaporate and ensure the joint is completely dry before application.
Loose paint, weak coatings and unstable materials must be removed. Deep joints may require a compatible backing rod to control sealant depth and prevent three-sided adhesion. Correct joint design helps the silicone accommodate movement effectively.
How to apply the silicone
Cut the cartridge seal carefully and attach the nozzle. Trim the nozzle at an angle to create an opening suited to the required bead width. Place the 260ml cartridge into a compatible sealant gun.
Apply the silicone using steady and consistent pressure. Keep the nozzle within the joint and dispense enough material to make full contact with both sides. Avoid trapping air behind the bead.
For neat edges, place masking tape along both sides of the joint before application. Tool the fresh silicone promptly using a suitable finishing tool, creating a smooth and slightly concave surface. Remove the masking tape immediately after tooling and before a skin begins to form.
Curing and aftercare
The silicone cures through contact with atmospheric moisture. Temperature, humidity, ventilation and bead depth will affect the curing rate. Warm, moderately humid conditions normally support faster curing, while cold temperatures and deep joints extend the process.
Protect the fresh bead from water, dirt and movement until it has cured sufficiently. Do not place sanitary fittings, guttering or sealed components back into full service before the silicone has cured in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
A vinegar-like odour may be noticeable while acetoxy silicone is curing. This is normal and should disappear as the product hardens. Maintain adequate ventilation throughout application and curing.
Important limitations
Do not use Everbuild General Purpose Silicone Brown on bituminous surfaces or materials that release oils, solvents or plasticisers. It is not intended for aquariums, structural glazing, food-contact applications or joints that remain continuously submerged.
The product may corrode sensitive metals and damage mirror backing. Natural stone may also become stained. A compatible neutral-cure or specialist sealant should be selected for these materials.
Do not apply the product to wet, frozen, dusty or unstable surfaces. Exterior joints should be protected from rain during initial curing, and all underlying defects must be repaired before sealing.
Cleaning and storage
Remove uncured silicone from tools using a suitable silicone cleaner, checking compatibility with surrounding finishes first. Once cured, silicone will generally require careful mechanical removal.
Store the cartridge in cool, dry conditions between approximately +5°C and +25°C. Protect it from frost, direct sunlight and excessive heat. Keep the product sealed and securely stored away from children.
