Before application, loose rust and flaking paint should be removed. Surfaces should also be clean, dry and free from grease, dirt and dust. Smooth surfaces should be lightly abraded to provide a suitable key for the new coating.
For bare zinc, aluminium and galvanised surfaces, Hammerite recommends using its Special Metals Primer before applying Direct to Rust Metal Paint.
Convenient 400ml Aerosol Application
The spray format makes Hammerite Hammered Spray Silver especially useful for intricate or irregularly shaped metalwork. Hammerite recommends applying light, even coats from approximately 15cm away from the surface while keeping the aerosol moving continuously.
For maximum protection, three to four light coats are recommended, with approximately 15 minutes allowed between coats. The paint is touch dry in around one to two hours.
The 400ml aerosol provides coverage of up to approximately 0.5m², although actual coverage can vary depending on the surface condition and application method.
