Hammerite’s Direct to Rust range is designed to protect ferrous metal against both corrosion and moisture, helping create a durable finish capable of withstanding exposure to changing weather conditions.
Before application, loose rust and flaking paint should be removed and the surface should be clean, dry and free from grease, dirt and dust. Smooth surfaces should be lightly abraded to provide a suitable key. Hammerite recommends using a suitable special metals primer when applying the product to bare zinc, aluminium or galvanised metal.
Convenient Aerosol Application
The 400ml aerosol can makes application quick and convenient. Hammerite recommends applying light and even coats while keeping the spray can moving approximately 15cm away from the surface. Applying several lighter coats rather than one heavy application helps achieve a more consistent finish while reducing the risk of runs and uneven coverage.
For maximum protection, Hammerite recommends applying three to four coats, allowing around 15 minutes between coats. The paint is touch dry in approximately one to two hours, making it suitable for projects where a relatively quick application process is important.
